Scrum Master Role In Scrum – Scrum Master Responsibilities

Scrum Master basically is the facilitator for both Product Owner and the Team. Scrum Master role is as follows;

  • Scrum Master needs to be a great team player. This is very essential as scrum master need to talk to the team, understand their problems, help the team follow scrum methodologies properly, support product owner in facilitating the scrum process, etc. Scrum Master entirely lives with the team. Scrum Master takes pride in accomplished work by the team.

  • Scrum Master supports product owner. Scrum Master helps product owner during sprint planning, sprint review, backlog refinement, removal of impediments, communications etc.

  • Transmits information. Scrum Master makes the progress visible to the entire team, to the stake holders by preparing Sprint Burndown Chart.

  • Removes Impediments. Scrum Master has the major responsibility of removing impediments faced by the team. This is most important because the team should work on the actual problems at hand rather than roadblocks.

  • Enhances Engineering Practices. Scrum Master must constantly help to improve tools and practices used by the team so that the efficiency is always maintained. Scrum Master can suggest new tools, trigger Knowledge Transfers across team to be more cross functional etc.

  • Scrum Master never assigns any tasks to anyone in the team. Team will make the commitments.

  • Provide Scrum Trainings. Scrum Master has to make sure everyone in the organization understands the meaning of real Scrum.
